View Full Version : whats the box like
hi all
whats the box like, is it easy to search for satellites without using usauls
and is blind search any good, and is it easy to update, and easy to use free gift.
thanks ejmbon
a friend of mine brought his 9000 the other day i enabled usals but i couldnt find where to enter my lat and lon anyway i asked the box to goto 16 east which it did immediatly i scanned that then i asked it to goto 19 east it also done this straight away i thought this was weird as the box couldnt have known what position it was in when i coupled it up. the box seemed a bit cheap looking and the menu was a bit bland but its not out there to win any beauty prizes ,the a+++ gift worked immediatly when i inserted the lan lead i was most impressed overall with the box ,i just wish i hadnt paid £400 for my dm800, price of this receiver is excellent value and the a+++ gift is unbelievable, overall i would give this receiver 7.5/10

Easy to set up = yes
You will get plenty of channels using your current set up, of course if you did get a motor you would get more.
hi guys i am waiting on mine being delivered anytime and judging by the reviews it has had i must say i am very pleased with all your input :cheers2::cheers2:
hi guys , i wonder which will be the best at the moment the spider or the eagle box please thankxxx
Well one is sd and the other is hd.
The eagle is a great little box but you need to learn alot before you can get the best out of it, and there is very little available using emu/key at the moment so crad share is your other option.
The spider is a very good HD box even without the gift channels, but with them it is the bewst value you can get for your money anywhere. The box is simple to setup and use.
Choice is yours ;)
thankx pawnee , need to know more about it then i will see if i can go for eagle if is not hardwork obviously , thanxx buddy

Eagle is not hard work, just needs a bit of learning and reading (as with all linux based enigma based receivers). spider on the other hand is relatively simple to operate.
Ive heard nothing but great reveiws regarding this reciever if money was not as tight for me at the minute i would have one of these spider (hd) for sure.....

Have a look at the 7000HD, lost some of the things you don't need anyway like RF output and it costs less:y2:
Also has the "gift" channels.
There are 5000 7000 and 9000 versions also 2 types for 9000 in the shop what is the difference where can I find out. If the 7000 has the gif* and also the 9000 why pay more....nice but dim here.
The 9000 is HD has 1 Card reader and two common interface slots for hardware cams & two Scart sockets
The 7000 id HD has 1 Card reader and one common interface slot for a hardware cam, & one Scart socket.
Both HD boxes use the same firmware.
The 5000 is the sd only model.
The 7000 would probably now, after your reply, be fine for me as the firmware is same. The 2x 9000 £189 £239 offers answered with a bit more reading The Home Plug ..not needed in my case. I am tempted to go for the 9000 just because it has the extra conectivity. Thanks for your help Pawnee..not quite as dim now.
( I was going to buy another type which seemed hard to use, after I looked into it,.. but now the Spiderbox seems just right. )
Spider box is simple to use and operate, I use it all the time myself, I have other boxes but this is defiantly my favorite at the moment
Final push I will order one on Tuesday. I feel the TM 1500 has had a fantastic run unbelievable but.. with the Big Men going to the Spider seems like a sensible decision. Have a nice weekend.
Good decision you will not regret it :cheers2:
Have to say im not to up there on tech side so Spider9000 is the best box ive ever had
Great box, very easy to use and the gift is worth every extra penny

interest reading about the spider,am interested in 9000.
but what will u get if not connected to internet,?
ie is there patches/softcms what will it open?
thanks for any info
You can use softcams with the box and get the same as any other stb out there using this method, the strong point of the SpideBox is its versatility it can use softcam, gift, cccam, newcamd and remains simple in operation.

thanks pawnee,for reply
what will the soft cam open in the 9000 spider, compared to tm box.

I have had my Spider for a couple of weeks now, I've put my Dreambox 7000 in the loft.
This is a great receiver and very easy to set up and use, I've picked up more sats with this box then I ever did with the DB, the tuner is great. I use the Gift, EMU and c line and pick up so many channels in SD & HD. The main reason for buying this was I wanted a good priced HD box and I made the right decision.
Also the gift isn't tied down to your IP Address so you can take the box to your m8's and watch it there.
It will also benifit those who don't have a HD Ready TV yet as you can still veiw the HD channels through scart or rf.
Ok the Spider box sounds the Bees knees. But what can you get on it without the Gift Channels. Is it likely to be of any use in a years time. If it would be possible to continue with the Gift after the year for a charge then It would be a great box.. Depending on the charge !!!
I'm itching for a Spiderbox but am hesitating because of the uncertainty of what happens after 12 months with the gift.
The trouble is no one seems to be able to give the answer to this simple question. The suppliers must know what is going to happen at the end of a year. If you bought the box back in january then when it runs out the package still must be working for the people who have just bought the spider box, so there must be away to continue with the Gift in some way. I expect there would be a charge so why dont they just anounce what the future charge will be and then we can all decide to buy the Spider .or Not

We will have to wait and see closer to the time when 1st registered gifts expire.
There are still patches, keys, etc being supplied for this very well supported receiver.
Remember; The "Gift" is just that! a free gift for 12 months! The purchase price of the receiver is super value for the specification of the receiver and its capabilities even without a Gift. It would cost MUCH more to buy official sub cards to view what you get with the Gift.
Agreed Its a good Reciever But what can you get on the Spider with the patch and the soft cam. Can you recieve any channels that you cant get on a Technomate patch, Or are the cleared channels only available on the Gift.
It would be nice to know.. ??
I agree the price of the Spider plus the gift is well below that of an offical package but what happens at the end of the year. Does the cost go up to £300,, £500 or do we have to buy another Spider box.
I have been in the Sat game since it first started, D2mac ,Etc and my house is full of old cards . cams etc. Then the cost was never over £80 to £100 .
You bought a good decoder Humax 5400 ( still working for Sky free channels BBC and ITV) and it lasted. The cards came and went so have the Cams. Matrix, Dragon, Etc. I know things move on but at what cost. Maybe it could be even cheaper in the future to pay for SLY, Heaven forbid.

@Longstack
"I have been in the Sat game since it first started, D2mac ,Etc and my house is full of old cards . cams etc. Then the cost was never over £80 to £100 . "
You must have got a good deal on your decoder mate! Mine was £140 in those days and opened 2 channels (Filmnet & TV1000), then needed an "upgrade" 3 weeks later for another £25 !!
To be honest, if there is no renewal (the man sells equipment not subs at the moment), I for one will be very happy to buy a new Spiderbox with a 12 month gift in November. I have already had way more than my money's worth out of mine
No M8 you got me wrong I paid over £200 for my Humax at least 8 years ago but I have only paid up to £100 for Cams Cards etc to go in it to decode channels. It seems a lot of money to pay over £200 for a decoder which might have to be changed within a year. Still if you are happy with that good luck to you.. I think Ill wait till December to find out what will happen to the Gift then.
